Name

Growing up, Nik Rabinowitz experienced a world of piano lessons, mean, green streets in Constantia, Cape Town, and unwavering affection and financial support from family members.

Growing up on a farm, he would climb trees and make Afrikaans-language comments on his own rugby matches.

Despite all of the difficulties he had as a child, he has persevered and gained notoriety as the leading Jewish comic who speaks Xhosa.

Nik moved off with a band of touring actors and a herd of asylum-seeking Zimbabwean donkeys after earning a business science degree from UCT and growing a big afro. One spring afternoon in 2001, he discovered stand-up comedy.

A few summers later, after establishing himself as the top Xhosa-speaking Jewish comic in the world, he won “SA Stand-up of the Year” for 2008.
