Her story – the best of both worlds, is a story of triumph over adversity. Navigating the world as a black woman with albinism, finding her voice and finding her confidence in a very cruel world towards people that are different. Realising nothing is impossible by getting behind the wheel when she was told that she would never drive her whole life because she was born with Nystagmus, a visual impediment that cannot be corrected.
Becoming an international award-winning actor on a Netflix original film which made the top 10 movies on Netflix in 2024 from the rural streets of Qwaqwa in the Free State where no one thought she would amount to much simply because she was different. Palesa dared to dream and made a realisation that it is our choices not our circumstances that determine our outcome. Everything she has achieved in her life and career is testament to the belief – that nothing is impossible.
She tells her story because she wants people to know that “if a girl from Qwaqwa who was born with a condition many believed to be a curse, who nobody wanted to get close to because they believe her condition was contagious, who had to sit at the very front of the class because she couldn’t see the board even while wearing glasses, who was bullied and ridiculed and faced so much discrimination, who was told not to dream too big because her dreams were not for people like her, who was abused and ran away from home because she didn’t feel safe….. – If she can make it, so can you!
