Africa Melane is a respected South African broadcaster, journalist, and moderator known for hosting the “Early Breakfast Show” on both CapeTalk and 702 radio stations. He is admired for his measured, inquisitive, and respectful interview style and has more than a decade of experience in South African broadcasting. 

Career & Background

  • Broadcasting: Melane currently anchors the “Early Breakfast Show” on weekdays from 4 am to 6 am, where he covers national and international headlines, news, sports, business, and lifestyle topics. He has interviewed numerous leading personalities, business leaders, politicians, and thought leaders from around the world. He previously also hosted the “Weekend Breakfast” show.
  • Education: By training, Melane is an accountant, having completed his articles at PwC after studying accounting at the University of Cape Town (UCT). This background in finance adds an analytical credibility to his journalism, allowing him to engage confidently on issues of governance and economic policy.
  • Academia: He has lectured a professional development course to first-year students at UCT’s Faculty of Health Sciences.

Melane is also a prominent figure in South Africa’s cultural and creative industries. 

  • He serves as the vice-chairperson on the board of the Cape Town Opera, Africa’s premier opera company, and even filled the position of interim Managing Director in 2020.
