Coda Duo brings together electric violin and cello in a polished live format that can move easily between elegant background music and something far more theatrical. The pairing is built around two established South African string players, Renate Riedemann on violin and Carol Thorns on cello, both known for combining classical technique with contemporary performance.
Renate has worked across a wide range of genres and projects, while Carol has built a strong career as an electric cellist with both local and international performance experience. Together, they bring a lot more range than a traditional string pairing.
Their repertoire can lean cinematic, contemporary or atmospheric, which makes the duo a strong fit for events that want live strings without the performance feeling overly formal.
Coda Duo works particularly well for corporate events, launches, weddings, gala evenings and premium functions where the music needs to contribute to the atmosphere without disappearing into the background.
The duo has remained active on the event circuit through 2026, with performances across corporate and private functions in Cape Town and the Winelands.
For organisers looking for live strings with visual presence, flexibility and a more contemporary edge, Coda Duo offers a strong balance of musicianship and atmosphere.
