Mashile was born in Soweto, Johannesburg in 1973. She studied at the University of the Witwatersrand and graduated with a degree in Media Studies and English Literature. After graduation, she moved to London and quickly became a sought-after artist in the poetry scene. Mashile has won numerous awards for her work, including the South African Literary Awards for Poetry Book of the Year for her book ‘The Whispering of the World’.
Mashile’s career has spanned many different fields. She is best known for her role as the presenter and producer of travel documentary series L’atitude (SABC1) and Drawing The Line (SABC2). She has also presented the popular television show Great Expectations (Etv). For the past three years, she has been the voice of CNN’s Inside Africa.
