“Every character that you meet onstage in one of my shows is drawn from someone who I knew, or who I know,” says Marc, referencing the genuine people he once knew. There’s no other way for me to write when it comes to my creative process. Even when reality is messed up, that’s where I always start.

Similarly, Marc’s humour strikes a chord with people abroad and has a mirror impact on a large number of South Africans. It makes sense that he has received multiple nominations, two Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards, and a Naledi Award throughout his career.

The tenacious comic has been entertaining audiences for nearly 30 years, having performed in no fewer than 17 one-man performances on stage and two highly regarded musicals.

It’s nerve-wracking and thrilling all at same. You can never be fully informed. He says, “You never stop learning.” “There isn’t just one “great night,” The truth is, there’s nothing better than witnessing an ecstatic crowd rise to its feet at the conclusion of a performance—be it a stand-up routine or one of my musicals. You can’t just buy that kind of response; those are the nights that are worth more than gold.
