JOHN FRESK (Keys)
Classically trained, but with pop, jazz, and rock experience and sensibilities, American-born piano virtuoso, composer and producer JOHN FRESK's career spans 25 years of professional international performance and recording.
Amongst many accolades throughout his long and prosperous career, John placed in the preliminary rounds as Grammy nominee for his song-writing on a single entitled Heavenly Brother.
A consummate professional, John has contracted with high-profile corporate clients, including Nike, Intel, Boeing, Tektronix, and HP, and is on the roster of recognised Yamaha Artists. John has also worked closely with prominent international artists, including multi-Grammy-winning jazz icon, Chick Corea, and Bobby McFerrin.
John’s tremendous talent, experience, and skill as live performer are a welcome gift to the South African music industry.
SIPHIWE SHIBURI (Drums)
Drummer SIPHIWE SHIBURI is a trained musician of the highest calibre. He has played with the likes of jazz greats Tu Nokwe, Bheki Khoza and the Grammy-nominated Bob Baldwin, and on prestigious platforms such as the Joy of Jazz and the Cape Town International Jazz Festival.
He toured the world as drummer for the smash-hit musical UMOJA, and also played for the critically acclaimed musical Umshado. His TV work includes appearances on SABC 2's Afro Cafe and Gospel Times as well as Soweto TV.
As a performer his visible enjoyment of his art is a pleasure to behold.
RYAN BYSSHE (Lead Vocals)
Having performed for audiences for as long as he can remember, lead vocalist RYAN BYSSHE took his own “long and winding road” to a career in music. After graduating cum laude from two degrees in Business and IT, Ryan took the helm of a local non-profit, which he led with passion for five and a half years. Finally he decided to follow his musical calling and made his professional debut in the successful duo John and Ryan.
Ryan’s grounding in both classical and world music, combined with his unique vocal warmth, clarity, and impressive range, make him a versatile and respected performer. He is best known for his smooth and moving renditions of both old and new popular ballads, as well as light “classical crossover” works. A genuine, good nature and easy manner with any audience, add to the considerable charm of this talented professional.
IKE ONWUAGBU (Bass)
With 21 years of experience in music and 14 years playing bass, IKE ONWUAGBU is a seasoned pro. Ike has played with well-known South African bands including Freshlyground, Denim, and Madlove, both locally and abroad. He was also selected as a bass soloist for Abdullah Ibrahim's New South African Orchestra in May of 2010.
His impressive versatility in genres ranging from jazz to pop make him an invaluable asset to this great new ensemble.
