Gail Nkoane Profile image

Gail Nkoane

At a very young age, I learned the importance of self-love, self appreciation and self-motivation! That where I was going and how the world was going to see me was solely dependent on how I see myself! I learned that ‘people treat us the way we allow them to’ and that ‘we are only as happy/successful/beautiful/kind as we make up our minds to be’. I also noticed that ‘no-one can make you feel inadequate or inferior unless you allow it’.
As I became older, I came to see many people around me, within my circles, have a negative image and view of themselves. People I love don’t know the power of the spoken word! We often hear people utter things like: ‘I AM ugly’; ‘I AM fat’; ‘I AMbroke’; ‘I AM stupid’; ‘I AM tired’; ‘I AM sick’ … very few people say ‘I AM beautiful; I AM successful; I AM rich; ‘I AM blessed’ … we forget that whatever we feed, grows.
Looking back at my own life, I realize that everything I have achieved was a result of my thoughts, which became my spoken word…so there is power in the tongue, I want to share with everyone I know!!!
I AM… presents for the power in discovering who and what each of us are able to become ... and who we truly are. This CSI initiative will encourage all persons and communities reached out to, to watch what they say of themselves...because as Margaret Thatcher said, our thoughts, ultimately become our destiny...what we think, we become!
I AM aspires to be the foundation responsible for giving individuals the power to realise that they can become whatever they make up their minds to become! I do this because I AM blessed to be a blessing; I AM woman; yes I AM flawed and scarred; but I AM strong and brave and whole; I AM alive, I AM worth it; I AM smart and free; I AM love...I AM GAIL

Gerry Elsdon

At the beginning of 1991, Gerry Elsdon moved to Johannesburg and fell in love with the speed and hype of the big city.  Gerry Elsdon worked with the ANC’s International Affairs Department doing mainly conference coordinating and taking care of foreign dignitaries visiting the country as part of the international department’s protocol team.  Gerry later moved to the Department of Local and Regional Government and Housing as an administrator.  It was while working in this department that Gerry Elsdon was approached by the Executive Producer of ARTWORKS, later called THE WORKS, which was broadcast on SABC3 and before long it had snowballed in such a way that she had to decide between politics and television.
By late 1993, Gerry was working with the Transitional Executive Council in Pretoria, with a team who were responsible for negotiating with officials in the homeland with regards to them being merged into the new South African Government.  When the elections came in 1994, Gerry realised she couldn’t burn the candle at both ends.  Her responsibilities at the SABC were escalating with Gerry being appointed as a member of the SABC3 continuity team.  Gerry then chose to become a full time freelancer and knew that if TV didn’t work out, she could fall back on the Civil Service.
In 1995, Gerry worked on many of the station’s RDP programmes including adult educational programmes and children’s programmes.  Gerry also did work as a Master of Ceremonies and Compère.  In 1996 she signed up to write for Cosmo South Africa, worked as Public Relations Officer for Revlon.  After resigning from the SABC she started a fresh career with the M Net Continuity Team.
Gerry Elsdon now focuses on Motivational Speeches, Corporate Videos and Master of Ceremonies work on a more selective scale.

Hlubi Mboya Profile Image

Based in Johannesburg

Hlubi Mboya

She has the numbers, the influence, the love and the husky voice!

Hlubi Mboya has international street cred now, having shot a movie “Hector’s Search for Happiness” with UK comic Simon Pegg.
Before her role in Jacob’s Cross, Hlubi was famous as  Nandipha in SABC 3’s popular daily soap, Isidingo.  Hlubi has taken her high profile to the next level, travelling as far afield as Tanzania and Zambia in HIV/AIDS education. It’s uncanny that a fictional character battling HIV/AIDS in a soapie should lead to the actress becoming a leading ambassador on the epidemic. Hlubi has presented  papers on  the future global impact of HIV on the youth and is in demand as a spokesperson on radio across the board. Embracing her new role as an advocate is typical of this diminutive dynamo, passionate about her work, South Africa, its people and life in general.
Hlubi spent most of her childhood in the States but studied 3rd world politics and world labour law at UCT before discovering the Thespian gene. Her studies were not wasted, however. As an advocate, a speaker and popular celebrity she takes her responsibilities seriously. The subject matter of her studies and well travelled general knowledge add to her ability as a corporate MC.
She has played cover girl on most of the top SA magazines and made history as the first black non-model woman to feature on the cover of Elle.
Her acting talents landed her a role in the Kung Fu “Shogun Khumalo Is Dying”,  produced by DC Studios and she was the Presenter on  the 2nd series of “It’s For Life.”
Referring to herself as a “student of life” she says she’s creating her own reality and there’s no doubt there will be a huge fan base with her every step of the way.  She has extended this gift of enthusiasm to her motivational speaking to women and young people, with the favourite topics being “Dream Big” and “Women of Value.”

Jack Devnarain Profile Image

Jack Devnarain

South Africa’s charming household name

As Rajesh Kumar on SABC 3's flagship daily soap Isidingo, he’s a household name but there’s a depth to Jack Devnarain that is rare in people who make it to the big time. Perhaps it’s life experience one can read in the subtle smile and soulful eyes of this cop turned actor, speaker, celebrity, MC.
Unable to suppress his talent, Jack started his acting career while working as a cop in Durban and was soon touring the Indian community theatre circuit with colorful musical comedies.
Television was a natural progression and, in 1998,  he swapped his badge and gun for the small screen  and acting  roles in drama and comedy productions until the day he landed the role of Rajesh Kumar in Isidingo. In film, he has worked with Hollywood names like Val Kilmer and Stephen Hopkins and iconic Indian art film director Shyam Benegal.
Even as a cop, his talent for the stage led to his becoming the preferred host for prestigious civic events, like the Mayor's Awards for Bravery, the Batho Pele Service Excellence Awards and the Durban City Stars Awards. Corporate events with Jack as MC now include the best of the best, including the Standard Bank Blue Star Awards, the ABSA Prestige Awards and SABS Awards, Deloitte, BHP Billiton and Business Connexion.
Jack is committed to community based initiatives and is involved in various cultural, youth and charity events.  He supports fundraising events around South Africa and is an ambassador for CHOC (Children’s Cancer Association) and the Add Hope Campaign for KFC. His largest audience to date has been at the Newtown Diwali Festival in Johannesburg, which he MC'd three years in succession since its inception in 2005, and has entertained a record breaking crowd of fifty thousand people.
His popularity has expanded beyond the African continent and his work on TV and film has been viewed in Canada, India, Europe and Argentina. He enjoys a high media profile as a personality and was awarded the People Magazine Crystal Award for Best Soapie Actor and Favorite Actor award at the You Magazine Spectacular in 2006. He also won the South African Film and TV Awards (SAFTA) for 2008 in the People’s Choice category of ‘Best Hero’ and another SAFTA for Best Supporting Actor in 2009.
Apart from acting and working as an MC, Jack also delivers motivational talks for corporate groups and, drawing on his experiences in the Police Department, presents demonstrations on crime awareness.  He is closely involved with event staging and live entertainment around the country and promotes the hugely popular SA Strongman National Series.

Client Feedback

Jack really was great. Frankly, what I liked most about him is that he really tried to connect with everyone at the event. He wasn’t one of those MC’s or paid speakers that arrive 10 minutes before, and leaves 10 minutes afterwards. I think he was one of the last to leave, and it looked like he mingled with everyone. I will definitely recommend you and him to anyone.  Kirsten van Jaarsveld. Brands Rock. Harley Davidson launch 2011
Jack handled the huge crowd really well. He was one of the best MCs I have worked with, especially for this type of hands on interactive events. Client was very happy. Bee Chapman. Production Hub. Cell C Team Challenge 2011
We were thrilled with Jack as the MC for this event. He’s so on the ball and I didn’t know he’s quite witty too. Deanna Verlis. Standard Bank Awards 2010

Jeannie D Profile Image

Jeannie D and your brand

Jeannie De Gouveia is one of the most high profile and  popular female presenters on South African television. The Jeannie D brand is synonymous with glitz, glamour, exuberance and style.
As the launch of her popular clothing range in Foschini Stores proves, Jeannie D is a premium brand in the young, hip, funky, trendsetter category.
That said, Jeannie  appeals to a wide fan base because of her brand presence over a broad spectrum. In the small pool of South African celebrity stardom, Jeannie D is a brand that’s truly arrived.
As a DJ, prior to joining the Top Billing team, Jeannie consistently scored top DJ in reader and listener polls, and even won the FHM Hottest DJ two years after having departed from the radio!
In moving from top DJ to presenter on the prestigious and sophisticated lifestyle magazine show Top Billing, Jeannie achieved a crossover following, appealing to all age groups. Her fan base has grown, with the popular Top Travel Show, a TB brand extension, on SABC 3. With Top Travel now flighting on the BBC Travel Channel and Wealth TV in the USA, the Jeannie D brand has gone international!
Jeannie D’s brand received wider spread in South Africa during the Soccer World Cup, when she co presented with football legends George Weah and JJ Okocha on SABC 1’s Mambo 2010.
Jeannie D is the obvious choice as a brand ambassador for top brands aimed at a stylish, fun or fashion conscious target market.  She’s in the Who’s Who of South Africa and has close on 27 000 followers on Twitter.
She’s one of the most popular corporate MCs for prestigious functions and is constantly featured in magazines like YOU, Shape, Heat, People, Cosmo and Glamour.
Magnetic presence and an ability to converse off the cuff, especially with a sense of fun and laughter, are integral to personal endorsement campaigns and there are few who would match Jeannie D as a brand ambassador.
Through Jeannie’s personal endorsement, your product line will be identified with a well known, respected, believable and extremely popular celebrity, thereby adding impetus to your campaign.
With Jeannie’s brand identified with the product, advertising will gain a strong emotional buy-in.

Advertising Campaigns

Any endorsement campaign dilutes a personality brand and affects future earning potential.  To ensure that the Jeannie D brand is not diluted, only one or two advertising campaigns a year are considered for South African media, which is why we demand premium fees for a premium brand like Jeannie D. Furthermore, the advertising campaign has to fit the prestigious nature of the Jeannie D brand.

 Liezel van der Westhuizen

 “Commitment. Passion. Action.”

Voted Number 56 in FHM HOT 100 Sexiest Women in the World – 2008
Voted Number 98 in HEAT HOT 100 – 2008
Voted Number 4 in SIMON RADEMAN’S best dressed women in SA – 2008
Nominated Best New Comer – YOU MAGAZINE Stars of 2008
Nominated for Best New Comer – PEOPLE MAGAZINE Crystal Awards 2008
Nominated for Best Dressed Presenter – PEOPLE MAGAZINE Crystal Awards 2008
Nominated for Best TV Presenter – PEOPLE MAGAZINE Crystal Awards 2008
Top 8 Finalist in  Shape Magazine Cover Girl Search -  2007.
Voted Best Team Player – Shape Magazine Cover Girl Search – 2007
12 years School Attendance without Absence (Northridge Primary School & PTA Girls High)
She may be have been a new face for Season 5 of MNET Idols and only the second woman in the world to present Idols, but Liezel van der Westhuizen has only been working in the home-grown entertainment industry for 2years, starting out on TV as an SABC 3 continuity presenter as well as the presenter of SABC 3’s live lunchtime talk show – Lunchbox.
Liezel is also a presenter on Jacaranda 94.2. It was on the latter station that Liezel’s ability to reach audiences, with her finely tuned, warm and hugely likeable presenting skills, earned her a strong following amongst the province’s radio listeners. “I began my radio life at Tuks FM and was well and truly hooked on the joys of being able to use media to connect with people,” she says.
Those early days as music manager at Tuks FM whilst still studying led to a job offer at EMI Music South Africa, where Liezel held the position of International PR Manager working with an impressive array of global music stars, including Lenny Kravitz, Atomic Kitten and Blue
It’s no surprise that Liezel is so at ease when talking to an audience: this Pretoria raised-girl has a Masters Degree in Communication Management from the University of Pretoria and, since 2000, has been a member of Toastmasters International, having received her Advanced Toastmaster Bronze certificate in 2005.
“I’ve always loved speaking in public and conveying my point of view to a broad audience,” Liezel says of her Toastmaster experience. In fact so committed is she to the benefits of this form of communication that last year she taught public speaking and communication at Abraham Kriel Childrens Home as a volunteer. “I’m passionate about young South Africans being able to stand up and speak, confidently and with knowledge, about the issues that move them,” Liezel says simply. And in addition to her Toastmasters experience, Liezel is a recognised voiceover artist, having done an array of television and radio voiceover work.
That Liezel is so focused on her own passions is entirely consistent with her personality: after all, this is a woman who, as a learner at Pretoria Girls never once missed a day of school, in her entire 12 years spent in the education system!
In fact, Liezel is no slouch when it comes to the other pursuits that she can’t live without: sport and health. “I train five days a week and follow a very healthy lifestyle.  And I’m crazy about golf!” That - and swimming, running, cycling, spinning and scuba-diving! It’s a head-spinning array of physical passions that, when combined with Liezel’s model-looks make it easy to see why she was a Top 8 finalist in the 2007 Shape magazine Sanex Cover Girl competition.
In 2008, Liezel received best new comer nominations for both PEOPLE MAGAZINES CRYSTAL AWARDS as well as for YOU MAGAZINES STARS OF THE YEAR. Liezel was also received a series of recognitions in 2008 by being voted in at 56 in the FHM HOT 100 Sexiest Women in the World , as well as voted Number 98 in HEAT HOT 100 and showed off her style by being voted Number 4 in SIMON RADEMAN’S best dressed women in SA.
But, for Liezel, what drives her to push on each day are new challenges and over the years she’s earned a reputation as an MC of note. That said, with her heavyweight media background, keen intelligence, easy manner with audiences and cover-girl looks, it’s surely not going to be long before Liezel becomes a household name.

In my expansive career, I have straddled the realms of Communications; Media; Radio and Television Broadcasting; News and Current Affairs; Film and Theatre; Writing and Production; Education, Training and Academia.

Monique Strydom

Introducing Monique Strydom

one of the Sipadan hostages who survived a 4-month ordeal in the hands of ruthless terrorists.  She tells a real life story, which made international headlines – and changed the lives of all involved.

More and more people are globally exposed to terrorism and dealing with the aftermath of terrorist attacks. Some have not survived these ordeals; others have been lucky and now live to tell their stories…

Are you looking for an inspirational speaker for your next conference or team building presentation?

Someone who has a real life story to tell…
Someone who has faced adversity…
Someone who has seen death…
Someone who has survived against all odds…
Someone who has come back and are using the lessons learnt to change the lives of others…
Monique Strydom is one of the lucky survivors and her story has captivated people across the world.  She was nominated as one of the Greatest Women of the Century by the American Biographical Institute, BBC/National Geographic recently filmed a documentary about her ordeal and she boasts with a personal reference by Nelson Mandela.
Monique Strydom is known as one of the 21 hostages who was held hostage by Abu Sayyaf rebels for 127 days in the jungle on the Philippine island of Jolo in 2000. Their group was in the hands of murderous terrorists, under continuous attack by the military, had to run for their lives through unforgiving territory, had very little food and water and were subject to many other dangers. The fact that not one of the hostages was killed is seen as a miracle.
For Monique, her experience on Jolo was an extraordinary, life-changing one.  Together with her husband, Callie, she made a decision to stay positive and draw lessons from her adversity.  On her return Monique decided to dedicate her life to the people of South Africa, to thank South Africans for their support and love and as a way of returning this kindness.  She closed down her own business and set up the Callie and Monique Charity Trust.  The Strydoms donated all the money they received with media interviews, appearances and their book, Shooting the Moon, to this trust.
In the last 7 years the trust has assisted various charities and causes and more than R 3 million has been donated back to the people of South Africa.  In 2002 Monique was asked to assist with addressing the high rates of child abuse and rape in South Africa and the trust developed Project Matla a Bana - A voice against child abuse. Apart from running the Trust and Matla A Bana, Monique was also the presenter of her own TV inspirational programs, "Footprints" and "Monique" on MNET.
Monique Strydom has become a sought after inspirational speaker, nationally and internationally, and their book – “Shooting the moon” is a best seller.
Callie and Monique Strydom have received the love and respect, not only from the people of South Africa, but also from people like Nelson Mandela and President Thabo Mbeki.  They have also rubbed shoulders with many superstars and world leaders.  The Strydoms are the recipients of the numerous awards including the prestigious Newsmaker of the Year Award and the Rotrary International Paul Harris Award (Callie Strydom).
Callie and Monique are the proud parents of Luc (6) who was born a year after their release.  They reside in Johannesburg, South Africa.

What Nelson Mandela said about them

We commend Callie and Monique Strydom for the courage they displayed under the most testing circumstances and wish them to know how proud they made all of us as South Africans for the manner in which they conducted themselves.
One outstanding feature of that episode that will remain in our memory is the way in which South Africans rallied around this couple.  Their story was followed with an intense interest and concern by the whole nation as if they were relatives of all of us.  It took this moment of personal suffering and danger to starkly remind us again that we are one people with a common destiny and common responsibility to care for and about each other.  The national mood of a common patriotism was vividly captured in the pictures of the Minister of Foreign Affairs chaperoning the couple back and the President officially receiving and welcoming them.
Monique and Callie we are happy to have you back amongst us, and let it go well with you.

Nelson Mandela Nov 2000

Nightlife was a Prime Time entertainment show highlighting all the hottest, trendiest and most happening spots and events in South Africa, as well as the international entertainment news scene. After 6 months of Nightlife, she decided to move back to her fist love – the news room – and continued anchoring the Morning Edition breakfast show.

Ruda Landman profile image

Ruda Landman grew up in small towns in the Northern Cape, the daughter of two school teachers. She spoke only Afrikaans, and went to university on a teaching bursary which meant that she had to either teach for the number of years she studied, or else repay it.

She completed a degree in Afrikaans and English (though her accent was so broad that her only English-speaking friend asked her to rather speak Afrikaans to her), and then decided teaching was not her preferred profession.

So she set out to find a job. The newspapers were an obvious possibility, as was the SABC, but she failed her first announcer’s test dismally. It was, amongst other things, a general knowledge test. She had just spent a year as an Education student, having a whale of a time and taking zero notice of the outside world. She knew nothing.

She was employed by Die Burger in Cape Town, starting as general reporter, and enjoyed it enormously. Of course, that meant catching up with the events of the day very quickly, so a month or so later she went back to the SABC to do another test. This time she passed, and when there was an opening at the Afrikaanse Diens in Johannesburg in 1981, Ruda was on their list.

There followed two years in radio, and two years at Sarie magazine. Then television beckoned. She first read the Afrikaans news, and in 1985, the first live actuality programme in the country took off: Netwerk/Network, in Afrikaans and English on alternate evenings. She was part of the Afrikaans team – It was a baptism of fire. The interviewees, politicians, etc, had never known anything like this, and neither did they. 1985/6 was a very rough time in the country, with schools in chaos, thousands of people in jail, and the townships in flames. Censorship, police control over where journalists could go, leaders like Archbishop Tutu, Beyers Naudé and Alan Boesak blacklisted or banned … the space in which they could move became smaller and smaller, and she was happy to leave when her son was born at the end of 1986.

Ruda’s family is the single most important thing in her life. The marraige went through a rough patch when their son was about four, but they decided to hang in there and work at themselves and the relationship, for their own sake as well as his. It was unbelievably hard, but it was worth every wakeful night, every bitter argument, every tear: they will be married for 32 years in November. The three of them make each other happy from day to day, they do it consciously, paying attention, talking, spending time, they tell each other how much they care, they hug, talk and laugh. It is a blessing, but one that they earn every dayand they never take it for granted.

Ruda’s son was 18 months old when Bill Faure phoned to ask if she wanted to present a new programme he was putting together for the brand new pay-TV station, M-Net. She agreed without having the faintest idea of where it would lead. No one did.

In the next 19 years Carte Blanche forced her out of her comfort zone and into places and spaces she would never have entered of her own accord.

The country was changing – the Group Areas Act, the Mixed Marriages Act, the Population Registration Act, the Land Act and many others were repealed, some long before the more obvious changes of the early nineties. She sat in squatter shacks talking to women who were holding together their families in the midst of the most appalling hardship, and learned to respect people for who they were, whatever their circumstances and background. She had to unlearn a lifetime of easy, unconscious racism.

She travelled into Africa. In some cases she was shamed by their pragmatic can-do attitude, for example the AIDS programme in Uganda in the late nineties, when we were still arguing about the right to privacy and what was causing the disease. In other cases her blood turned cold as she looked into the abyss we had stepped back from – Maputo, a once-beautiful city in tatters; Mogadishu, another once-beautiful city in complete chaos, as it still is today.

Israel and Palestine made her deeply grateful for the combination of leaders we were blessed with when we faced that abyss. FW de Klerk and Nelson Mandela were men who had the moral courage to say out loud things their followers probably did not want to hear, who then sold it to their followers, and signed on the dotted line saying, to misquote the Bible, “My people and I will adhere to this agreement.” Had we not had them, we could now have been building walls and fences trying to protect ourselves from one another.

Back home the Truth and Reconciliation Commission started, and once again it was her job that forced her to pay attention, to really listen. As an Afrikaner, she had to accept that her people, whom she had revered, had taken the lead in committing the kind of inhumanities that were graphically related in those halls every day. Once again her comfort zone was shattered and she had to recalibrate herself and her view of the world.

Television journalism is a funny old business, halfway between doing the story and being a story. One quote has often helped to restore her balance. It comes from the prima ballerina Margot Fonteyn: “One thing I have learnt over the years: the difference between taking one’s work seriously and taking oneself seriously. The first is imperative, the second disastrous.” Like the owls in one of the Narnia books, she want echo: “Too-oo true-ue, too-oo true-ue…”

Since leaving Carte Blanche, Ruda had the time to “just do” things that might otherwise have been only a passing thought, like making cds with children’s stories for kids in hospital. She had time to work on a documentary series about the Border War for kykNET, which took months of dedicated hours and gave her no end of a kick. The world is out there. She’s fifty-five. Who knows what else is lying ahead

Shado Twala Profile Image

Shado Twala is not your common or garden variety multi-media practitioner and broadcast celebrity.  This is a personality much like an orchid – only developed under specific conditions, not easily found but always appreciated, loved and inspiring.  With almost 2 decades of experience as a broadcast media professional – she has also been a print journalist, besides presenting and producing for both television and radio – this evergreen South African household name ads value to any event, an intrinsic value that cannot easily be calculated in financial terms.
Her talent as a communicator was highlighted in 1989 when she was chosen as the Best Presenter by a national audience which won her a trip to New York to hone her skills on an exchange programme.  In 1994 the Freedom Forum granted her fellowship member status, which led to her contributing and participating in varied media workshops around the US.
As one of the first black women on radio in South Africa, Shado Twala is well-loved and respected and has a broad appeal to both young and old.  She is coveted by magazines and radio alike for interviews and pictures.  Most recently she appeared in Oprah Magazine in the June 2011 Edition and is a regular with Fair Lady, True Love and other magazines.  She is also often interviewed by international media to talk about social and music related issues in SA and on the continent.
She is also a jazz entrepreneur, collector and educator - working with jazz musicians, with the firm belief that musicians are often badly paid and neglected by society and industry as one of the softer arts - she manages and develops artists and produces local and international jazz events.
With her years of experience in the media, her extensive media network inside and outside South Africa, Shado brings a wealth of knowledge in the development of communications strategies, designing implementation programmes of these on behalf of her clients.
She has been very visible in S.A. as one of the judges of the very popular television show – ‘SA’s Got Talent’.  She also in March 2011 MC’d the WOOLWORTHS Gala Charity Auction Dinner and in June, did a function for the British High Commission – to name a few and illustrate her versatility and appeal.
Very much in demand socially, she often has to handpick events and invitations as there is not always enough time, but she is always invited to A-list and red carpet events though being a confirmed booklover and homebody.  Her presence at any event also because of her genuine love for people and interacting with them, is always a highlight and definitely a factor if not THE factor in making the event memorable and creating memories and positive associations which linger...

Tumisho Masha Profile Image

Tumisho Masha

Tumisho came into South African homes as the classy yet calculating Dumisani Thusong on SABC 3 soap Isidingo. He experienced some frustration at being called Dumisani and not Tumisho, even by fans who knew his name, and decided it was time to stand on his own in the South African limelight. Tumisho's acting talents won him international roles in projects like Beyond Borders with sexpot Angelina Jolie, Red Water with Lou Diamond Phillips and most recently Drum with Taye Diggs.
With his migration to Top Billing, Tumisho not only strengthens his brand but shows that he has strong cross over appeal.
If Tumisho's list of credits are anything to go by he looks like the classic overachiever and brings this charm and intelligence to Top Billing audiences every week
